Soft Scupture? (group exhibition)
Exhibition: Soft Sculpture?
Date: Jul. 11 - Aug. 23, 2009
Location: InArt Space, Tainan, Taiwan
Exhibition Concept:

With the term “Soft Sculpture”, the featured artists utilize various materials to challenge sculptures’ potentiality. As an exploration through the chosen medium, the artists subvert and experiment with the surface and texture of their works. Getting away from our concept of “Art Objects”, Inart space invites viewers to have a discussion on the ever-changing states of “Soft Sculptures”. The three participating female artists attempt to let their works become the fluctuating medium in their creative process. Instead of coming to a conclusion, what emerges after a series of metamorphoses is an open dialogue for interpretation and imagination of the exhibited works. The artists’ elaboration on language, time, and space, build a visual linguistic structure, which welcomes the viewers to have an instinctive and multifaceted interpretation of the exhibiting works.

[The Transparent Technicolor Flow]

Jun Jun Lai’s clear acrylic works utilize light to convey an elemental concept. Light penetrates the material and refracts the colors in the sculptures; the hard acrylic radiates a soft mesmerizing glow, resembles the reflection on water flowing with ripples.

Lai’s clear acrylic structures escape the restraints of texture, symmetry, center and border. Breaking away from representation, the works focus in pure "light" and "color" abstraction, and thus acknowledges our world with her will.
